Textual manipulation

Some senior Democrats have alleged that the White House has doctored sections of a report authored by the us government's Environmental Protection Agency (epa) that contained references to global warming. The document is said to have been tinkered with to toe us President George W Bush's line that global warming is of minor environmental importance.

One example of the changes made is that the sentence climate change "has global consequences for human health and the environment" has being diluted to "may have potentially profound consequences".

White House officials have denied doctoring any information.
