Sindh HC wants details of toxic dumping case
On January 17, 2007, Pakistan's Sindh High Court directed the senior superintendent of police (SSP) to submit details of the FIR in the toxic dumping case at the Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (see 'Chemical crime', Down To Earth, June15, 2006). The court restrained factories in the estate from dumping toxic material in the open. It also asked the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) and estate authorities to keep a check on dumping and also make sure they submit all environmental monitoring reports. The FIR states that all SEPA officials, except Iqbal Saeed Khan, the complainant, are responsible for criminal negligence.
