Imagine laptop users using scrotum guards such as ones worn by cricketers. It might be a reality soon. Research by scientists at New York State University reveals that laptops could cause sperm counts to fall. Lead researcher, Yefim Sheynkin notes, "Laptops can reach internal operating temperatures of over 70 c. They also produce direct local heat. These computers require their users to sit with their thighs close together to balance the machine, trapping the scrotum. Both factors seriously affect fertility." Sheynkin's team studied the impact of using a laptop on 29 volunteers between ages 21 and 35 by measuring scrotal temperature before and after they used such machines. The scientist notes that scrotum guards could help.
