Unrest among waste disposal workers in Navi Mumbai over non-payment of salary

Garbage collection process was disrupted across the city as 700 odd workers went on strike to protest against non-payment of salary as per the revised minimum wages act. The dumpers used for transporting garbage remained stationed in front of the NMMC headquarters.

'Plastic Man' Vasudevan Rajagopalan faults poor waste management system

During the opening day of the National Conference on Marine Debris (COMAD) in Kochi, Vasudevan Rajagopalan, the ‘Plastic Man of India’, said that it is not plastic per se but the woefully inadequate waste management system that leads to the accumulation of plastic debris on both land and in water.

Two more landfills get go ahead in Delhi, and they are near the Yamuna

East Delhi Municipal Corporation has obtained the nod of the Central Pollution Control Board for two new landfills in the Yamuna river zone, or the ‘O’ zone. According to experts, this is an absolute no-no because both the sites are in the floodplain.

North Delhi corporation floats tender for city’s 4th waste-to-energy plant at Bhalswa

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation has floated the tender for setting up a waste-to-energy plant, along with an engineered landfill site, at Bhalswa. The plant is expected to generate 15MW of energy daily.
