A Committee has been set by the Supreme Court to study various aspects of urban solid water management in the country. The Court has directed the panel to submit its report by June 30 this year. Asim Burman, commissioner of Calcutta Municipal Corporation is heading the eight-member panel. It will examine the examine the existing practices and suggest hygienic processing and waste disposal practices and proven technologies on the basis of economic feasibility and safety. It has also been asked to suggest ways to promote eco-friendly sorting, collection, transportation, disposal, recycling and reuse.
