Where all did extreme events cause disasters last decade

Over 95 per cent deaths from natural disasters occurred in developing countries between 1970 and 2008. Middle-income countries have borne the largest burden. During 2001-2006, losses amounted to about 1 per cent of GDP for middle-income countries. Clearly, developing countries will be worst affected in future
