Researchers from China have found an ancient human skull that could belong to an altogether new species of humans.

The researchers have published their findings in the journal The Innovation and have said that the cranium of the skull could be over 146,000 years old. The researchers have said that the newly discovered skull belongs to a new human species.

They have called it the Homo longi or ‘Dragon Man’. The skull was reportedly discovered back in 1933, when a bridge was built over the Songhua river. The researchers believe the skull belonged to a male, about 50 years old, who had a high energy lifestyle.

Separately, researchers in Israel have also identified a previously unknown kind of ancient human called ‘Nesher Ramla Homo’. The species coexisted with Homo sapiens nearly 100,000 years ago and while the exact number of human species is a matter of debate, most scientists believe that there are at least 21 of them.

Homo sapiens are the only known human species that exist in the world today. They evolved in Africa nearly 300,000 years ago as a result of some dramatic climate change events. The newfound knowledge can help us in understanding our relationship with other species and our immediate ancestors.
