The Union Ministry of New & Renewable Energy brought out small hydro power schemes from time to time to provide Central financial assistance to both government and private sector for setting up Small Hydro Power (SHP) projects, Union Minister of State for New & Renewable Energy and Power, R K Singh told the Lok Sabha on July 25.
The aggregate capacity of SHP projects commissioned in India by June 30, 2019, was 4,604.81 Mega Watt (MW). A total of 116 SHP projects, aggregating to 589.99 MW, are under construction, he added.
Supply of Electric Vehicles
Till date, 652 electric cars (e-cars) have been deployed for various government departments across India by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture public sector undertaking under the Union Ministry of Power, Singh told the Lok Sabha.
He added that EESL had concluded the procurement process of 10,000 e-cars under the National E-Mobility Programme that was launched on March 7, 2018.
These e-cars were provided to government departments on lease/outright purchase basis to replace the existing fleet of petrol and diesel vehicles taken on lease by them.
The Inter-State River Water Disputes (Amendment) Bill, 2019
The Inter-State River Water Disputes (Amendment) Bill, 2019, was introduced in the Lok Sabha by Union Minister for Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat amid protests by opposition parties which said the states were not consulted.
The Bill seeks to amend the Inter State River Water Disputes Act, 1956, to streamline the adjudication of inter-state river water disputes by setting up a single tribunal.
The Companies (Amendment) Bill, 2019
A Bill to replace the Companies (Amendment) Ordinance, 2019, was introduced in the Lok Sabha by Union Minister for Finance, Nirmala Sitharaman on 25 July, 2019
As soon as Sitharaman rose to introduce the Bill, to replace the ordinance promulgated in February, Trinamool Congress member Saugata Roy said Members of Parliament had no prior information of the proposed legislation and urged Speaker Om Birla to direct the government to reintroduce it on 26 July, 2019.
In reply, Sitharaman said the Bill has been a necessity as the government had promulgated an ordinance on the subject twice in the past — in November 2018 and February 2019.
Storage of spent fuel near Kudankulam
There had been some opposition to the setting up of an 'Away From Reactor' (AFR) facility at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tamil Nadu by a section of people living around the site because of misinformation being spread by some groups, Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions and Primer Minister’s Office, Jitendra Singh told the Rajya Sabha.
He added that the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, a public sector undertaking under the Department of Atomic Energy had enhanced its public awareness programme and was addressing the concerns of the public related to AFR.
