
According to the Ground Water Resource Assessment 2024, all 14 districts of the Bundelkhand region have been evaluated. Of these, 10 districts have been classified as ‘Safe’, three as ‘Critical’, and one as ‘Semi-Critical’, Union Minister of Jal Shakti CR Paatil told the Lok Sabha.
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has adopted a market-based mechanism, the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), to reduce carbon emissions from international flights. As a member state of ICAO, India is obliged to comply with the mandatory phase of CORSIA from 2027.
Under the scheme, airlines are required to offset emissions that exceed the 2019 baseline. CORSIA applies only to international flights. Based on the recommendations of the Fifth Meeting of the National Biofuel Coordination Committee (NBCC) held on November 24, 2023, indicative blending targets of 1 per cent by 2027, 2 per cent by 2028 and 5 per cent by 2030 of sustainable aviation fuel in conventional aviation fuel — initially for international flights — have been approved, Union Minister of Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu told the Lok Sabha.
The Government of India has released Rs 545.35 crore as central assistance to various states under the Repair, Renovation and Restoration of Water Bodies scheme, a component of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana - Har Khet Ko Pani, from the financial year 2016-17 up to March 31, 2025.
As a result, an irrigation potential of 1.20 lakh hectares has been restored and 191 million cubic metres of water storage capacity has been revived as of March 2025, Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti Raj Bhushan Choudhary told the Lok Sabha.
The government has been promoting ethanol blending in petrol under the Ethanol Blended Petrol Programme. During the ongoing Ethanol Supply Year 2024-25, public sector Oil Marketing Companies achieved an average ethanol blending rate of 18.36 per cent as of 31 March 2025, which rose to 18.93 per cent by June 30, 2025.
In June 2025, ethanol blending reached 19.92 per cent. State-wise blending targets are not specified, Minister of State for Union Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas Suresh Gopi told the Lok Sabha.
In Kerala, the Central Ground Water Board monitored groundwater levels in coastal districts through a network of 330 established wells. To assess long-term fluctuations, water levels recorded in November 2024 were compared with the decadal mean for November (2014-2023). Analysis shows that about 69 per cent of the wells registered a rise in groundwater levels, Choudhary told the Lok Sabha.
As reported by states and Union Territories (UT) on July 21, 2025, around 124.4 million additional rural households have been provided with tap water connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission - Har Ghar Jal. Consequently, of the 193.6 million rural households in the country, over 156.7 million (80.94 per cent) now have tap water supply.
Work on the remaining 36.9 million households is underway as per the plans of the respective states and UTs, Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti V Somanna told the Lok Sabha.
The Union Cabinet approved the Biotechnology for Economy, Environment & Employment or BioE3 policy in August 2024 to enhance innovation-driven support for research, development and entrepreneurship across six thematic sectors. The policy aims to accelerate technology development and commercialisation by establishing bio-manufacturing and Bio-AI hubs, as well as biofoundries.
It promotes the industrialisation of biology to support sustainable and circular practices in addressing critical societal challenges such as climate change mitigation, food security and human health. It also seeks to build a resilient bio-manufacturing ecosystem to enable cutting-edge innovation and the development of bio-based products, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology & Earth Sciences Jitendra Singh told the Rajya Sabha.
Over the past five years, a total of 2,100 megawatts of nuclear power capacity has been added to the grid. During this period, approximately 241 billion units of clean electricity were generated by nuclear power plants, preventing the emission of over 207 million tonnes of carbon dioxide-equivalent, Singh told the Rajya Sabha.
According to information received from State and UT governments, 73 human deaths were reported in 2024 due to tiger attacks, while 629 deaths occurred due to elephant attacks in 2023-24, Minister of State in the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Kirti Vardhan Singh told the Rajya Sabha.
According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board, e-waste generation increased steadily to financial year 2022-23 from 2020-21. However, it declined in 2023-24 and rose slightly in 2024-25. In 2024-25, the country generated 1,397,955.59 tonnes of e-waste, Singh told the Rajya Sabha.
