As told to Parliament (December 7, 2021): Thousands of posts vacant at India’s rural health centres

In India’s rural areas, 8,638 posts of allopathic doctors at primary health centres, 3,168 general duty medical officers (allopathic), 2,348 surgeons, 1,949  obstetricians and gynaecologists, 2,224 physicians and 1,910 paediatricians at community health centres were vacant as on March 31, 2020, said Bharati Pravin Pawar, Union minister of state for health and family welfare told the Rajya Sabha December 7, 2021.

She was quoting from the Rural Health Statistics 2019-20 by the ministry based on  the information provided by states / Union territories. 

Cases of adverse vaccine reactions low

A total of 1.23 billion doses of vaccines against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have been administered and 49,819 adverse events following  immunisation (AEFI) have been reported — 0.004 per cent of total doses administered under the COVID-19 vaccination program, Pawar said. 

Immune response to measles, rubella increases

There was a significant boost in immune response to measles and rubella after vaccination, Pawar said based on serosurvey results. 

Seroprevalence of dengue infection was 48.7 per cent and for diptheria was 29.7 per cent in children aged 5-17 years. Around 10.5 per cent were children in that age group were non-immune to diptheria and 59.8 per cent were partially immune. 

In children aged 5-8 years, 1.1 per cent were chronic carriers of Hepatitis B. 

Electric vehicle policy in 2nd phase

The second phase of the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India scheme is at present being implemented for a period of five years from April 1, 2019 with a total budgetary support of Rs. 10,000 crores, said Krishan Pal Gurjar, Minister Of State For Heavy Industries told the Lok Sabha. 

This phase focuses on supporting electrification of public and shared transportation and aims to support, through subsidies, 7,090 electronic buses, 500,000 electronic three-wheelers, 55,000 electronic four-wheeler passenger cars and 1 million electronic two-wheelers.

The scheme was formulated to promote adoption of electric / hybrid vehicles in India. 

The Union ministry of heavy industries formulated the  scheme namely faster adoption and manufacturing of (Hybrid and) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) Scheme in 2015 to promote adoption of electric / hybrid vehicles (xEVs) in the country, Krishan Pal Gurjar, Minister Of State For Heavy Industries told the Lok Sabha. 

Most crop damage by floods in Karnataka

Karnataka suffered the highest crop loss (13.98 lakh hectares) due to hydro-meteorological calamities / hazards as on November 25, 2021, said Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare to the Lok Sabha.

The southern state was followed by Rajasthan (679,000 hectares) and Bihar (580,000 hectares), the minister added. 

Country's agroforestry cover & models

As much as 93,809.27 hectares of actual land was brought under agroforestry under the sub-mission on the agroforestry scheme, Tomar told the Lok Sabha.

The Central Agroforestry Research Institute, Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh, under Indian Council of Agricultural Research, developed 35 agroforestry models suitable for different agro-ecological regions and land-use conditions for the benefit of farmers.

Energy generation from garbage

A total of 10 waste-to-energy plants for generating electricity and six for generating bio-compressed natural gas from municipal solid waste (MSW) have been commissioned in the country, RK Singh, Union minister for power and new and renewable energy told the Rajya Sabha.

Environment clearance (EC) for setting up of projects for generating energy from MSW is granted by the Union Ministry of Forest Environment and Climate Change (MoEFCC). No applications from municipalities for ECs pertaining to such projects are pending with MoEFCC, Singh said.
