The contributors to the volume include economist K N Raj and environmental activist Vandana Siva. More importantly, the compilation also has contributions from a diverse range of people from agricultural officers who have been trained in modern agricultural science, teachers, businessmen and farmers. Councillors of the Vadakara Municipality in Kerala participated in the making of the book.
The contributors main aim was to compile the knowledge that exists not as scientific treatises, but as songs and folklore. The articles involve careful observations of climatic changes, understanding of soil types and seed varieties, and also diverse farming practices.
