the Aditya Birla Group of companies will be setting up a 450 megawatt power project at Mangalore, Karnataka, at an estimated cost of Rs 2,300 crore. It has formed an energy development company for implementing the project, which is scheduled for completion within the next six months. The project envisages producing electricity using an environmentally compatible process. The power generated by the project will be supplied to state electricity grid. The project would be implemented in two phases. In the first phase, a detailed project report will be prepared. This would help in identifying the commercial feasibility of the project and also aid the bidding process. Configuring the technologically best and the most cost effective option also forms part of this phase. As a consequence of these activities, the project team would be able to offer the best tariff to the government of Karnataka.
