delhi is the only city in the country, which does not have a separate landfill site to safely dispose off its hazardous waste. Neither does the city government have documented evidences of the hazardous waste being generated. To discuss these problems, a seminar on hazardous waste management was recently organised by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee in New Delhi. Though a plan to develop such a site has been on the anvil for some time now, its location is yet to be finalised. "There is no location that is suitable to develop such a site in Delhi," said Vivek Rae, secretary environment, forest and wildlife department of the Delhi government.
According to the representatives of Delhi-based Federation of Commerce and Industries and Confederation of Delhi Industries, the need of such a landfill site would be very soon eliminated as all the polluting industrial units are being relocated.
