The us navy has decided to stop its military training on the Puerto Rican island of Vieques. "The military exercises on Vieques will come to an end within two years and a panel will be asked to find a suitable location for the training," us president George W Bush said. The training has strewn bombs, toxic metals and chemicals across the tiny island, posing a threat to the health of the people (see Down To Earth , Vol 9, No 20, March 15, 2001, p12).
