India is poised to become a leading player in the global chemical processing market, thanks to the efforts of researchers at the Pune-based National Chemical Laboratory (NCL). The NCL scientists found that the formation of zeolites can be hastened by adding a cocktail of inexpensive chemical compounds. Zeolites have a lot of significance in petrochemical and other chemical industries. According to Rajiv Kumar, head of the NCL team, "the significance of our work is that the new method speeds up crystallisation of several types of zeolites, resulting in increased yield and substantial savings in energy and costs.
