An American company, Solar PowerInternational, Inc. has developed asolar lawn mower that is pollution-free. A conventional gasoline-powered lawn mower, on the otherhand, causies more pollution in halfan hour than a car driven 300 km(Solar Today, Vol 9, No 2).
The solar mower uses photovoltaic cells to charge a 4-horsepower DC motor. The company claimsthat after a day's charging in the sonor about 4 hours plugged into astandard household AC outlet, theequipment can run for 2 hours ingrass that is upto 15 cm high.
