The 'Pride of India Expo' at the Indian Science Congress 2016 hosted nearly 180 top notch scientific organisations of the country to display new innovations, working models of existing innovations and information on new research conducted by them. Here are glimpses from the exhibition:
Built by Ganesh Prateek, a college student from Bengaluru, the scorpion robot walks and stings like a scorpion. A UV sensor acts like the scorpion’s eyes, projecting 2D images of any object that crosses its path. The scorpion’s brain, located at its base, is built using Robo C software. There is a touch sensor at the sting of the scorpion. "This is a prototype that can be used to go through small holes and pipes, tracks and drainage systems. It can even be used in defence systems to detect landmines," Prateek said.

The hourglass mill is fitted with a ball bearing that reduces effort while grinding grain. After one rotation, the mill gains enough momentum to go on consecutive rounds without application of rotating force. This is because of the friction between the mill and the ball bearing.
The oil slilck remover is used to separate immiscible liquids like oil and water. The oil sticks to the drum, is collected in the tray and finally in the bucket at the end of the tray
In this electricity generator, wind rotates the poles (bottle), generating mechanical energy that can be converted to electrical energy. This electrical energy is responsible for the lighting of the bulb.
This electricity generator works as follows: when a car lands on a roller bump, the rotation of the bump generates mechanical energy that can be converted into electrical energy using a motor.
This solar water heater is different from others in the market as there is no overhead tank. This means a saving of Rs 8000 to 10,000. Also, due to absence of overhead tank, there is no missing of cold and hot water so whenever you draw hot water it will be of the same temperature throughout.
Hexapod is a robot with six legs, each with three degrees of freedom. This enables omni-directional motion. It can walk on rough terrain and has ultrasonic sensors for obstacle avoidance.
Mini mule is an example of a hybrod legged and wheeled locomotion. Its legs have three degrees of freedom and wheels in place of feet.
This robot has a tracked locomotion mechanism that can endure rough terrain. It also has GPS, Infrared and vision sensors.
