Wuhan strain to Omicron: Where are we headed now?

Why has the original strain disappeared and what has replaced it?

The new SARS-CoV-2 lineage Omicron reported in Hong Kong, Israel, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and many other countries has sent the world into a tizzy yet again. This ‘variant of concern’ (VOC) has forced governments to impose restrictions on travel at a time when people were hoping for ‘normalcy’. The UK, United States, Canada, Japan among others have banned travel from South Africa, while the union health ministry in India has asked states to strictly screen all passengers coming from vulnerable countries.

But after two years, five VOCs and two ‘variants of interest’ (VOI), the strain with which all this began in Hubei, China is nearly nowhere to be found now. Why has the original strain disappeared and what has replaced it? Watch the video to know more.
