Engulfed in toxins: Delhi citizens fight against Okhla waste-to-energy plant

Since 2009, the residents of Sukhdev Vihar, a residential colony in Delhi, have been fighting against a waste-to-energy plant operated by Jindal Urban Infrastructure Ltd. The plant uses dirty incineration technology to produce power and releases toxic dioxins and furans which affect residents of nearby colonies. The residents have approached courts, but have not got any relief. The NGT, on February 3, 2017, only penalised the plant but did not ask it to close down. The residents now plan to approach the Supreme Court
