In a bid to ensure that agricultural policies are efficiently implemented, the Union government has begun linking land records with the digital IDs such as Aadhaar.

So far, 10 million farmers from 10 states have been covered in this digitisation drive.

The digitisation comes at a time when the much awaited Census exercise is about to commence.

The unique IDs ‘Kisan Pehchaan Patra’ would contain the details of the farmers’ land holding, crops grown in the field and other details which would make them easily accessible for direct beneficiary transfers.

It remains to be seen how landless or marginal farmers, who form the bulk of the farming community in India, are going to be covered in this digitisation drive.
