The farmers in Madhya Pradesh’s Sheopur district were yet to recover from losses in soy harvests when the price of paddy plummeted in wholesale markets.

These farmers, after posting losses in soy production, resumed cultivating the staple crop of paddy in the last few years but now seem to be caught between the idiomatic devil and the deep blue sea.

Paddy cultivated in Madhya Pradesh is mainly supplied to Europe, America and Gulf countries.

Experts attribute the fall in paddy prices to a fall in global demand.
