The wedding season is at its peak and so is the winter smog in the national capital. As the air quality continues to nosedive beyond tolerable limits, the Supreme Court has mandated a ban on the sales of firecrackers in Delhi as well as the districts of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana that fall within the National Capital Region.

A bench comprising Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan issued the order while hearing the MC Mehta case related to air pollution in Delhi and NCR.

The sale of firecrackers peaks from October to February.
