Targets for 2030 remain totally inadequate, according to Warming Projections Global Update released recently. The current 2030 targets (without long-term pledges) put the world on track for a 2.4°C temperature increase by the end of the century. Chart by Climate Action Tracker.
Even with all the new Glasgow pledges for 2030, the world will emit roughly twice as much in 2030 as required for 1.5°. Therefore, all governments need to reconsider their targets, the report urged. Chart by Climate Action Tracker.
Global warming outlook improved since Paris 2015, the report said. It had come down to 2.7°C. If governments were to achieve their 2030 nationally determined contribution targets and binding long-term targets, temperature increase could be limited to 2.1°C, it added.
