Hot and humid weather is likely to prevail over large parts of southern and western India on May 1 and 2, according to the latest bulletin by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

“Hot & humid weather is likely to prevail over Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, Kerala & Mahe during 01st May & 02nd May; Gujarat state, Marathawada and Madhya Maharashtra on 01st May,” according to the IMD.

Heat wave conditions are also very likely in isolated pockets of the Jammu division and southwest Rajasthan on May 1.

Scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall, accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds with speeds reaching 40-50 kilometres per hour (kmph) and gusting to 60 kmph, is likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Sikkim, eastern Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh in the period during May 1-3.

Thundersquall (speed reaching 50-60 kmph and gusting to 70 kmph) is very likely at isolated places over Jharkhand and Bihar on May 1; eastern Madhya Pradesh during May 1-3 and Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh on May 3 and 4. 

Isolated hailstorm activity is likely over Odisha on May 1 and eastern Madhya Pradesh on May 2 and 3.

In peninsular India, isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and strong winds speed reaching 30-40 kmph and gusting to 50 kmph is likely over Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Kerala and Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during the next seven days, with thundersquall (wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph) likely over north Interior Karnataka during May 1-4. 

In the Northeast, fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall, accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds with speeds reaching 30-40 kmph and gusting to 50 kmph is likely during the next five days. Isolated hailstorms are very likely over Nagaland and Manipur on May 1.

A fresh and active Western Disturbance is likely to impact northwest India from May 2, 2025. Under its influence, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds with speeds reaching 30-40 kmph and gusting to 50 kmph is likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during May 1-6.

Isolated hailstorms are very likely over Uttarakhand on May 1 and 2 and thundersqualls with wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph on May 1.

Isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and strong winds speed reaching 40-60 kmph is likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan during May 1-5.

Dust storms are very likely at isolated places over eastern Uttar Pradesh on May 1; Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on May 1 and 2; western Rajasthan during May 1-4 and eastern Rajasthan during May 1-3.
