
Even as Delhi and the National Capital Region received heavy rainfall in the early hours of the morning of May 2, 2025, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that the inclement weather was likely to continue for the next few days.
“Isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning & strong winds speed reaching 40-60 kmph likely over Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh & Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan during 02nd May to 06th May,” IMD said in its early morning bulletin on May 2.
It added that thundersqualls (with speeds reaching 50-60 kmph and gusting to 70 kmph) were very likely at isolated places over Punjab, western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan on May 2.
“Isolated heavy rainfall over Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh on 02nd May,”
Dust storms are very likely at isolated places over Rajasthan during May 2-5, while scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds at speeds of 40-60 kmph is likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during May 2-6.
“Isolated hailstorm very likely over Uttarakhand on 03rd May and thundersquall wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph on 03rd May,” according to IMD.
In eastern and central India, scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds at speeds reaching 40-50 kmph and gusting to 60 kmph is likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal & Sikkim till May 3 and over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh till May 5.
Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Odisha on May 2 and 3.
In southern peninsular India, isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning & strong winds is likely over Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Kerala and Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during the next seven days.
In the Northeast, fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds at speeds reaching 30-40 kmph and gusting to 50 kmph is likely during the next four days.
“Isolated heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya on 05th May,” IMD warned.
Hot and humid weather is likely to prevail over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam and Rayalaseema on May 2.
