
Rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms and squally/gusty winds will likely continue over East & Central India till May 3, 2025, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its forecast on April 29, 2025.
In Northwest India, a fresh and active Western Disturbance likely to impact the region from May 2, 2025.
Under its influence, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning & strong winds speed reaching 30-50 kilometres per hour (kmph) are likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during 1-5.
Isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning & strong winds speed reaching 40-60 kmph are likely over Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh & Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan during April 30-May 4.
Dust storms are very likely at isolated places over East Uttar Pradesh on April 29 and 30; Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi on May 1 and Rajasthan during May 1-15.
In South peninsular India, isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning & strong winds speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph are likely over Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Kerala & Mahe, Tamil Nadu Puducherry & Karaikal during the next 7 days with thundersquall (wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph) likely over North Interior Karnataka on May 2 and 3.
Fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph are likely over Northeast India during the next seven days. Heavy rainfall is likely over Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh on April 29 and Assam & Meghalaya on April 29 and 30.
Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Saurashtra & Kutch on April 29 and isolated heat wave conditions on April 30, as per the IMD.
The statement by the weather forecaster added that heat wave conditions were very likely in some parts of West Rajasthan on April 29 and 30; in isolated pockets on May 1; in isolated pockets over Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, East Rajasthan on April 29 and 30.
“Hot & humid weather is likely to prevail over Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, Kerala & Mahe, Marathawada during 29th April-01st May; Gujarat state during 29th April-01st May; Madhya Maharashtra on 30th April & 01st May,” the statement said.
