The southwest monsoon is very likely to advance into the South Andaman Sea, some parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal and Nicobar Islands around May 13, 2025, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its daily bulletin on May 9, 2025.
In the Northeast, fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds at speeds reaching 30-40 kilometres per hour (kmph) and gusting to 50 kmph is likely during the next five days.
Isolated heavy rainfall will occur over Arunachal Pradesh during May 10-13, Assam and Meghalaya during May 11-15 and over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during May 11-13, with very heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh on May 12 and over Assam and Meghalaya on May 13.
In eastern and central India, isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds at speed reaching 40-50 kmph and gusting to 60 kmph is likely over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh during May 9-13; with winds speed reaching 30-40 kmph and gusting to 50 kmph over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during May 9-12 and over Gangetic West Bengal during May 11-13.
In the northwest, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds at speeds reaching 40-60 kmph is likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand during May 9-11; isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds at speeds reaching 40-50 kmph over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh during May 9-11 and over Rajasthan during May 9-13.
In the west, isolated light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds at speeds reaching 40-50 kmph and gusting to 60 kmph is likely during May 9-11.
In peninsular India, isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and strong winds at speeds reaching 30-40 kmph and gusting to 50 kmph is likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana and Karnataka during May 9-13 and over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on May 9.
