Week 1 (Feb 4-8)
This week in courts was about the Supreme Court expressing its displeasure with the Rajasthan government for not assessing the area of illegal mining in the Aravallis and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) reprimanding Salem Municipal Corporation for failure to check effluents. Week 2 (Feb 11-15)
During this week, the NGT fined Delhi government Rs 5 lakh for failure to check noise pollution and the Supreme Court ordered the Uttar Pradesh government to file a vision document for Taj Mahal preservation. For more, click here
Week 3 (Feb 18-22)
In the month's third week, the NGT asked West Bengal to implement zig zag technology in brick kilns and the tribunal also directed Maharashtra to submit an updated status report on the digitisation and geo-reference mapping of forest areas. There’s more. For that, go here
Week 4 (Feb 25-March 1)
The last week of February saw the NGT direct the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to frame a policy on the use and disposal of antimony coated solar panels and it also ordered that a committee be constituted to examine the claims of seepage due to leakage in the sewerage pipe affecting soil and ground water in Buldana district's Shegaon in Maharashtra.
