Heat is on

What a 2°C rise will cost the earth

Water shortage: A huge proportion of population in Africa, about 600 million, will run short of water. So will a billion people in Asia

Coastal flooding: Sea level across the world will rise, putting lives of 10 million people at risk. Small islands would disappear

Coral bleaching: Great Barrier Reef could lose 95 per cent of its coral reef by 2050 if ocean temperatures rise by 1.5°C

Crop yields: Maize and wheat yields will fall by 5 per cent in India. Rice yields in China could see 12 per cent drop

Increased mortality: Heat-related deaths will increase. New diseases will appear
