All India peak electricity demand is projected to be 388 GW by 2031-32 according to the National Electricity Plan (Transmission) for the period 2022-32, Shripad Naik, minister of state in the Union Ministry of Power told the Rajya Sabha on July 28, 2025.

The Government of India is confident of meeting this projected power demand without any shortages, Naik added.

Power generated from renewables

All India installed capacity from Renewable Energy (RE) resources (including large hydro) was 220,096.34 MW as on March 31, 2025. RE Generation of 403,643.17 Million Units (MUs) was achieved during the FY 2024-25, Naik told the Rajya Sabha.

Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2025

Some 761 districts and 21,000 villages are proposed to be covered through digital technologies under Swachh Survekshan Grameen (SSG) 2025, V Somanna, minister of state for Jal Shakti told the Rajya Sabha.

Swachhata Green Leaf Rating Initiative

The Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Tourism, rolled out a ‘Swachhata Green Leaf Rating System’ (SGLR) for hospitality facilities.

The Swachhata Green Leaf Rating System (SGLR) encourages hospitality establishments to adopt better technologies for sanitation to make their facilities Swachhata Green Leaf Rating System (SGLR) compliant and achieve Swachhata Green Rating from 1 leaf to 5 leaf.

This aligns with emphasis on providing world class hygiene and sanitation facilities for tourists, marking a crucial step towards cleaner and more sustainable tourism practices, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union minister of tourism told the Lok Sabha.

Ghazipur landfill relocation

The Ghazipur dumpsite in Delhi is operating since 1984 and is spread over an area of 70 acres (28.328 hecatres). In 2019, the volume of solid waste at the dumpsite was 140 Lakh Metric Tonnes. The biomining / bioremediation operations for legacy waste present at the dumpsite started in 2019. At present, around 82 Lakh MT of solid waste is present at dumpsite, Kirti Vardhan Singh, minister of state in the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) told the Lok Sabha.

Agarwood plantation and trade in Assam

The Government of Assam has notified ‘The Assam Agarwood Promotion Policy 2020’ for sustainable utilisation of agarwood and its plantation by growers, promotion of trade and industry etc, Singh told the Lok Sabha.

Assam has also exempted agarwood under the Assam Tree Outside Forest (Sustainable Management) Rules, 2022. This means there is exemption on taking prior permission for felling and removal of agarwood’s out-turn and movement outside Assam, within the Northeastern states.

During Amrit Brikshya Andolan 2023 and 2024, free seedlings of Agarwood have been supplied by the Assam Forest Department to the public for plantation under the Jan Bhagidari Model, Singh added.

Solar panel waste

No authentic estimate is available so far regarding the generation of solar panel waste in the country by 2030.

The MoEFCC has comprehensively revised the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2016 and notified the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022 in November 2022 and the same is in force since April 1, 2023.

These new rules provide for managing e-waste including solar photo-voltaic (PV) modules or panels or cells in an environmentally sound manner and putting in place an improved Extended Producer Responsibility regime for e-waste recycling wherein all manufacturers, producers, refurbishers and recyclers are required to register on the portal developed by the Central Pollution Control Board, Singh told the Lok Sabha.

Elephant deaths due to train collision

A total of 81 elephant casualties due to train collisions were reported by various states between 2019-20 and 2023-24, Singh told the Lok Sabha.

Jharkhand’s dedicated climate change budget

Jharkhand has set the climate agenda in line with National Action Plan on Climate Change and Mission LiFE.

The government has taken steps like promoting green cover, along with income generation through Birsa Harit Gram Yojana, Jharkhand Jalchhajan Yojana and similar schemes for facilitating public investment.

These schemes are helping in adaptation through income generation and mitigation through enhanced green cover.

Jharkhand has also prepared and submitted its State Action Plan on Climate Change with the Centre’s support, Singh told the Lok Sabha.
