A total of 242.78 GW non-fossil fuel based electricity generation capacity has been installed in India, as on June 30, 2025, Shripad Yesso Naik, minister of state for new & renewable energy and power told the Rajya Sabha on July 29.

The Centre has taken several steps and initiatives to promote and accelerate renewable energy capacity in the country to realise the target of 500 GW non-fossil fuel based electricity generation capacity by 2030.

Non-communicable diseases

The Indian Council of Medical Research, Public Health Foundation of India and Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation conducted a study on non-communicable diseases (NCDs). It suggested that the proportion of NCDs in India has risen from 30.5 per cent in 1990 to 55.4 per cent in 2016. This increase is primarily attributed to several key risk factors, including unhealthy diet, low levels of physical activity, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholesterol, and elevated body mass index, Prataprao Jadhav, minister of state in the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare told the Rajya Sabha.

Cancer treatment funds

The Government of India has implemented Strengthening of Tertiary Care Cancer Facilities Scheme under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases. The aim is to set up of 19 state cancer institutes and 20 tertiary care cancer centres in different parts of India.

The Centre also plans to set up day care cancer centres in district hospitals in the next three years, of which 200 centres are to be set up in Financial Year 2025-26, Jadhav told the Rajya Sabha.

Tobacco in women and children

There is a decline in tobacco use among women from 20.3 per cent to 14.2 per cent, as per the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) -I (2009-10) and GATS-2 (2016-17) conducted among age groups of 15 years and above.

The Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) conducted for school-going children of age group 13-15 years reported a decline in tobacco use from 14.6 per cent (GYTS-3, 2009) to 8.5 per cent (GYTS-4, 2019), Jadhav told the Rajya Sabha.

Bhopal Gas Tragedy victims

The Centre has not set up the Empowered Commission for rehabilitation of Bhopal Gas Victims as promised earlier, Anupriya Patel, minister of state in the Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers told the Rajya Sabha.

However, relief and rehabilitation work for the victims is being carried out by the Office of Welfare Commissioner, Bhopal as well as by the Bhopal Gas Tragedy Relief & Rehabilitation Department of the Government of Madhya Pradesh.

Accordingly, budgetary provisions have been made by the Centre as well as Government of Madhya Pradesh for the welfare of the Bhopal gas victims.

Financial assistance under PMAY-G

The Union Ministry of Rural Development is implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) with effect from April 1, 2016, to provide assistance to eligible rural households. The overall target is to construct 4.95 crore (49.5 million) pucca houses with basic amenities by 2029.

A cumulative target of 4.12 crore (41.2 million) houses has been allotted to states/Union territories as on July 24, 2025. Of this, 3.84 crore (38.4 million) houses have been sanctioned, and 2.81 crore (28.1 million) houses have been completed, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister of Rural Development told the Lok Sabha.

Crop insurance claims under PMFBY

During 2022-23 to 2024-25 (up to Kharif 2024), claims of Rs 50,474.74 crore has been reported under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). Of these, Rs. 45,192.26 core has been paid already to 926.59 lakh (92.659 million) farmer applications. Further, Rs 5,282 crore (10.5 per cent) is pending for payment, Chouhan told the Lok Sabha.

Drone Didi scheme

The government has approved ‘Namo Drone Didi’ as a Central Sector Scheme for providing 15,000 drones to women Self Help Groups (SHGs) with an outlay of Rs 1,261 crore for the period from 2023-24 to 2025-26.

The major objective of the scheme is to promote advance technology in agriculture for improved efficiency, enhanced crop yield, reduced cost of operation and to empower SHGs as drone service providers for increasing their income and providing livelihood support to them, Ramnath Thakur, minister of state for agriculture and farmers welfare told the Lok Sabha.

EV charging stations

Setting up of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations is an unlicensed activity and private entrepreneurs can also install the charging stations. In addition to this, an allocation of Rs 2,000 crore has been made under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme, for setting up of EV public charging stations (EV PCS) on pan India basis including Tier 2 cities in Tamil Nadu. The total number of EV charging stations operational in Tier-2 cities as on April 1, 2025, is 4,625. The installation of EV charging stations is a demand-driven activity and no target can be set as installation depends on many factors including EV penetration, Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, minister of state for heavy industries told the Lok Sabha.

Population Census 2027

The Government of India has notified its intent to conduct Census in the Gazette on June 16, 2025. The Census will be conducted in two phases. In phase one i.e. house listing and housing Census, the housing conditions, assets and amenities of each household will be collected. Subsequently, in the second phase i.e. Population Enumeration, the demographic, socio-economic, cultural and other details of every person in each household will be collected, Nityanand Rai, minister of state in the Union Ministry of Home Affairs told the Lok Sabha.
