A remote area in northeastern Peru has the highest mammal diversity in the world, reveal recent studies. Michael Valqui, a student at the University of Florida, during his study found 86 mammal species in the region that is surrounded by three large rivers -- Ucayali, Amazon and Yavari. Researchers at the Ohio State University have also come up with a similar list that shows the presence of 84 mammal species in the region. The researchers attribute the diversity to various factors including vast rainforest and the presence of ridges that isolate the animals.
