Seawind gets a helipad

The Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority has approved the helipad proposed atop the residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani's south Mumbai residence, Seawind. On August 24, the authority granted a no-objection certificate to the construction company, Ruchi Properties Pvt Ltd. Despite stiff opposition from neighbours and activists, the authority decided to accept the report submitted by Senes Consultants India Pvt Ltd, hired by the builder.

It said noise levels from chopper landing and take-off would be within the permissible range of 45-55 decibels (dB) as against 100 dB claimed by activists (see 'Din over private helipads in Mumbai', Down To Earth, September 15, 2009). The municipal corporation has to clear the project now; it was stalled in June.
