Designers from the Research Centreof Building Power Tools, Russiahave designed tools that, they claim,disobey the sacrosanct third law ofmotion laid down by Newton. Thetools are specially designed for usein space, where the zero-gravitysituation gives astronauts a hardtime in doing a simple job likehammering a nail. They havedesigned a hammer which is filledwith pellets and absorbs all thebackspring, a special cone-shapeddrill that allows it to cut a holewithout transferring the backwardtorque to the handle, a scissors thatdraws into the cutting material itselfand does not require much effortfrom the user and a non-inertialpliers where the force on the jaws is100 times that on the grip.
