If you thought of electromagnetism as something that only served to light up your home and run a thousand gadgets, think again. Our reality, be it natural, artificial or virtual, is completely electromagnetised. This reality is the theme of Electronetwork.org -- a just tribute to our electromagnetised existence! The site is an initiative of Electromagnetic Education Initiative, yet to be established as an official non-profit organisation. The idea is to create "a place, online and offline, for electromagnetic ideas that -- because they are unique, innovative, and challenge the reigning discourses of the day -- often result in paradigmatic quagmires". The website, first phase of this venture , is to be followed by projects to increase public awareness and interdisciplinary research, before finally setting up an Electromagnetic Institute to create a seat for education, research, conferences and exhibits on electromagnetism.
Electronetwork.org doesn't define boundaries -- the role of electromagnetism in art is as vital as that in science. It showcases architectural designs and technological devices alongside paintings and poetry. Placed in this frame, Sylvia Plath's poem Fever 103 stands reinterpreted, providing artistic evidence of our electromagnetised existence. The content ranges from a curious mix of articles and exhibits from across various fields to online projects, web links and reference guides on electromagnetic resources pertaining to a specific geographic locale.
