Brought in sharp contrast: Trekking further, Bhatana points to the fault line dividing his fields. Water logging has caused half of the standing crop to rot.
Colours of a calamity: Women walk back with the relief material distributed at the village panchayat office.
A hot afternoon getaway- Boys dive off the main road connecting Surendranagar to Limbadi Taluka.
Bhatana says it will take years before anything grows on his fields. New soil will have to be spread.
People break que waiting outside the panchayat office. Representatives of the Ramakrishna mission, distributing relief in this village call out names as per village records. The Government is still to announce compensation.
Waters begin corroding road surfaces, making them unsafe for driving.
The new ferry way: Boats take people to their homes now
The burden remains: Woman comes out holding the relief material- a blanket, one bottle of cooking oil and grain filled in sacks meant for cement.
Just another edifice: Surrounded by water, the village tank of Mota Katechi in Limbadi taluk remains out of reach for the people facing drinking water shortage.
Undeclared holidays: At the field office of Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary.
En route to a flooded village in Limbadi taluk, we drove by Kantibhai Bhatana’s fields. To one side of the road was land still under water, to the other were these denuded fields.
End of the road: At Mota Katechi Village. We couldn’t travel further to other villages reachable only by boats.
