As of June 30, 2025, the total installed solar energy capacity in Odisha stands at 706.34 megawatt (MW), Shripad Yesso Naik, Union minister of state for new & renewable energy and power, told the Rajya Sabha.
According to the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency, solar projects with a combined capacity of around 486.66 MW are currently under implementation across the state. Some of these projects have experienced delays, primarily due to challenges in obtaining approvals for tree felling, vegetation clearance and issues related to land acquisition.
The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has conducted an evaluation study to assess biomass power and bagasse-based cogeneration potential in the country, including the Konkan region, Naik told the Rajya Sabha.
The study was carried out by the Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad, in 2021. According to the report, Maharashtra has an estimated potential of 2,629.55 MW, which includes Raigad and the wider Konkan region.
The MNRE launched the Grid Connected Rooftop Solar Programme Phase II in March 2019, Naik told the Rajya Sabha. In October 2022, the implementation timeline was extended until March 2026. However, with the launch of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana in February 2024, the programme was subsumed under the scheme, which aims to install rooftop solar systems in one crore households in the residential sector by 2026-27.
As of August 5, 2025, a total of 1.67 million households have benefitted from rooftop solar installations under the scheme, with Rs 9,280.88 crore disbursed as Central Financial Assistance (CFA) to beneficiaries, he added.
According to the Central Electricity Authority, total power generation from waste-to-energy projects over the last three years and the current year amounts to 8,879.22 million units, Naik told the Rajya Sabha.
Under the Waste to Energy programme, CFA of Rs 53 crore has been released by the MNRE, he stated. Waste-to-electricity plants with a combined capacity of 4,462 tonnes per day, supported by a central share of Rs 185.76 crore, have been approved under Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Naik said.
Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) is a demand-driven scheme, with capacities allocated based on requests received and progress shown by states, Naik told the Rajya Sabha. Under Component B, the target is to install 1.4 million pumps, of which 853,000 solar pumps had been installed as of July 31, 2025.
These installations have helped replace diesel pumps, contributing to the de-dieselisation of the farm sector. As of July 31, 2025, it is estimated that solar pumps and solar plants installed under all PM-KUSUM components have mitigated 6.6 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
The Lakhpati Didi initiative is an outcome of the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union minister for rural development, told the Lok Sabha. To date, 1,48,32,258 self-help group (SHG) women have become Lakhpati Didis. In Himachal Pradesh alone, 82,176 women have achieved this status. District-wise data are not maintained at the ministry level, the minister said.
For 2024-25, Rs 94.371 lakh was allocated to Andhra Pradesh under the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF), of which Rs 47.185 lakh has been released, Ramnath Thakur, minister of state for agriculture and farmers welfare, told the Lok Sabha. For 2025-26, Rs 12,251.46 lakh has been allocated, with Rs 5,810.8875 lakh already released. District-wise fund allocation is not centrally maintained, he stated.
To achieve the target of “Housing for All” in rural areas, the Ministry of Rural Development has been implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) since April 1, 2016, Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Union minister of state in the ministry of rural development, told the Lok Sabha. The scheme aims to provide assistance to eligible rural households, with an overall target of constructing 49.5 million pucca houses with basic amenities by 2029.
The Union Cabinet has approved the construction of an additional 20 million rural houses under PMAY-G during 2024-25 to 2028-29. As of August 4, 2025, of the cumulative target of 49.5 million houses, 41.2 million have been allocated to states and Union Territories, 38.5 million have been sanctioned and more than 28.2 million have been completed.
