Ghazipur poultry wholesale market, located in East Delhi, is a key hub for the wholesale poultry trade in the capital.

It is primarily known for supplying fresh chicken to retailers and consumers throughout Delhi. The market is busiest during the early morning hours, particularly before dawn, when the bulk of trading takes place.

In 2021, a Supreme Court-appointed panel identified several violations, such as a lack of proper records for the source of poultry and the absence of a veterinarian during inspections — both of which are required for operating a slaughterhouse.

The market temporarily shut down in early 2021 as a precautionary measure against the spread of bird flu, following reports from other regions of the country.

However, this was done even though no confirmed cases were found in Delhi at the time.

The sheer scale of this market makes it unique in India, and it has even been recognised as one of the largest poultry markets in Asia.
