Transmission of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) from asysmptomatic cases was “very rare”, Maria Van Kerkhove, the World Health Organization’s techniocal lead for the pandemic, said June 8, 2020.
Kherkove stressed again on isolating confirmed cases and tracing their contacts.
Several studies, however, have been more sceptical of the role infected-but-asymptomatic persons can play.
In the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has pointed to asymptomatic cases playing a large role.
The US has already recorded more than two million cases and more than 113,000 deaths, according to private aggregator Worldometers.info.
