Heavy rain in July 2025 across the national capital of Delhi may have been responsible for the 10-year high jump in malaria cases, according to a report in the Hindustan Times.
Experts told the daily that the above-average rainfall may have led to lasting waterlogging across Delhi, which may have likely contributed to the jump in cases.
Delhi has recorded 124 cases of malaria this year. Likewise, dengue cases till July 28 stood at 277, the second highest in the last five years in the corresponding period, the Hindustan Times said, citing data from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
Meanwhile, the MCD also reported that the number of identified mosquito breeding sites having larvae had surged as 9,117 more such sites were detected in the last week of July 2025. A total of 89,030 sites were detected between January and July, according to the MCD.
