Solid waste plant for Beas
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on August 30, 2019 directed Himachal Pradesh to ensure completion of a solid waste processing plant to ensure waste wasn't dumped in river Beas. The state told the tribunal it needed no more funds for the project.
Himachal had earlier said it hadn't recieved central funds for the project. After a conflict between the Union ministries for environment and housing and urban affairs, it was decided at a joint meeting that the later would fund the project.
Bio-medical waste norms flouted
The NGT on August 30 directed the Delhi Pollution Control Board (DPCC) to develop within a month a methodology for monitoring the recovery of compensation from industries in north-west Delhi flouting bio-medical waste management rules. DPCC, before that, filed a fresh action-taken report (ATR), stating that power supply of the defaulting units have been disconnected, prosecution initiated and compensation assessed.
The tribunal had expressed dissatisfaction with an earlier ATR and said on May 4 “Once serious violations are noticed, the action has to be commensurate to the violation.”
Glen Apple Buildcon not following norms
Glen Apple Buildcon Pvt Ltd was accused of building a five-star banquet hall in Haryana, without following requisite environmental norms on August 30, 2019. The NGT directed the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (PCB) to submit a report.
The consent to establish the venue was absent; there were also allegations of violation of mining and groundwater norms. Such illegal activities were damaging the environment and public health.
Hazardous dumping in Meerut
The NGT on August 30, 2019 heard the application filed by Pankaj Sharma, alleging dumping of hazardous waste in Meerut by several industries (including Dev Priya Industries, Devpriya Paper Mills, Dev Priya Products and Holy Commercial) The NGT directed the Uttar Pradesh PCB to look into the matter, act according to the law and furnish a factual and ATR in the matter within a month.
