Transmission of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) from asysmptomatic cases was “very rare”, Maria Van Kerkhove, the World Health Organization’s techniocal lead for the pandemic, said June 8, 2020.

  • Kherkove stressed again on isolating confirmed cases and tracing their contacts.
  • Several studies, however, have been more sceptical of the role infected-but-asymptomatic persons can play.
  • In the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has pointed to asymptomatic cases playing a large role.
  • The US has already recorded more than two million cases and more than 113,000 deaths, according to private aggregator Worldometers.info
