Government officials have started acquiring land in two villages in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district. The work started in villages Nugaon and Polang around 7:30 a.m. Situation is very tense as, 2,000 people from five other villages are marching towards Nugaon and Polang.

About 600 armed policemen have been deployed in the two villages. Residents supporting the project also want the land acquisition to stop after a meeting on May 17. They say they have not received any compensation, even though Odisha government claims otherwise.

The state is paying Rs 11,000 per decimal (1 decimal= 40.46 square metres) of vine as compensation.
