Gorgosaurus: Sotheby’s all set to auction T-Rex’s cousin

Gorgosaurus was a genus of tyrannosaurid theropod dinosaur that lived in western North America during the Late Cretaceous Period. It was a relative of the famous Tyrannosaurus Rex, although it was smaller size and had greater bite force. This photo shows a T-Rex. Photo: iStock
Charles M Sternberg, a palaeontologist with the Geological Survey of Canada, first discovered the Gorgosaurus fossils in the Judith River Formation near Havre, in the US state of Montana. This photo shows the specimen being assembled.
The specimen is 10 feet tall and 22 feet long. It includes the head, the greater part of the vertebral column, the pectoral and pelvic arches, at least one of the forelimbs, both hind limbs, the ribs and apparently the entire series of abdominal ribs.
The specimen will be on public display starting from July 21, till its auction July 28, 2022. It is expected to fetch up to $8 million according to media reports. This photo shows the completely assembled specimen.
