In Banda district in Uttar Pradesh—in the dry and semi-arid Bundelkhand region—a farm is lush green, in stark contrast to the rest of the region. It is owned by farmer Prem Singh, who also runs a farmers' learning centre. He practises an alternate way of farming called Avartanasheel Kheti which involves dividing the farmland into three equal parts. These three equal parts are used to grow fruit plantations, millets and grains and fodder for cattle respectively.
