The desperation of the farmers to get over with harvesting can be discerned from the fact that the harvesting manoevres are being performed even late at night. Photographs by Vikas Choudhary/CSE

It's that time of the year when heavy machines swarm over paddy fields in Punjab

The harvesting of paddy is reaching its last stage in agrarian states like Punjab and Haryana

Diwali is long over and we are done celebrating it. In the frenzy of light and sound, what we seldom realise is that after all, it's a harvest festival.

A week after the harvest festival, the big farms in Punjab are buzzing with activity as giant threshers harvest the ripe paddy.

It is important not to let the ripe crop lie unharvested for long as it is prone to damage by rain and fire accidents.

With an adversely changing climate, the traditional time of sowing and harvesting is being affected and harvest festivals are facing difficulty in coinciding with the actual harvest.
