Mushroom cultivation can be the key to combat stubble burning woes

Green houses set up to farm mushrooms are made of stubble which can help farmers in sustainable disposal of their residue

Mushroom cultivation offers a profitable venture for farmers exploring for an affordable cash crop. The straws and stubble needed to set up the green nurseries that ensure optimum conditions for mushroom growth, can all be derived locally from the field.

Except for the plasic sheets, the entire enterprise is organic.

The leftover paddy stubble which makes headlines when the air quality plummets in the national capital, can be utilised in making these green houses.

The stubble can also be used to make manure which is of paramount importance in mushroom cultivation.

Such sustainable measures can put stubble to good use by eliminating the need to incinerate it.
