Daily weather tracker: Fresh western disturbance in the northwest, heat wave in isolated pockets of Saurashtra & Kutch

Heavy rainfall likely over Assam & Meghalaya on April 30

A fresh western disturbance will likely hit northwest India this week while a heat wave is likely in isolated parts of Saurashtra and Kutch on April 30, according to the bulletin of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

“A fresh and active Western Disturbance likely to impact Northwest India from 02nd May, 2025,” the statement said.

Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning and strong winds at speeds of 30-50 kilometres per hour (kmph) is likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand in the period from April 30 to May 4 under the influence of the western disturbance.

Isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning & strong winds at speeds reaching 40-60 kmph is likely over Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh & Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan from April 30 to May 4.

“Duststorm very likely at isolated places over East Uttar Pradesh on 30th April; Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi on 01st May and Rajasthan during 01st-05th May,” said the IMD statement.

In eastern and central India, scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning & strong winds at speeds reaching 40-50 kmph and gusting to 60 kmph is likely over eastern Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh in the period from April 30-May 2.

Isolated hailstorm activity is likely over Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha on April 29.

In peninsular India, isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning & strong winds at speeds reaching 30-40 kmph and gusting to 50 kmph is likely over Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Kerala and Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during the next seven days. Thundersquall, with wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph, is likely over north Interior Karnataka on May 2 and May 3.

In the Northeast, fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall, accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds at speeds reaching 40-50 kmph and gusting to 60 kmph is likely over the region during the next seven days. “Heavy rainfall likely over Assam & Meghalaya on 30th April,” said the statement.

Besides isolated parts of Saurashtra and Kutch, heat wave conditions are very likely in some parts of western Rajasthan on April 30; in isolated pockets on May 1; in isolated pockets over Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan on April 30.
