Combusting hydrogen

DTE Staff

Ford Motor Company has developed a concept hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle. Carbon dioxide emissions do occur from the burning of engine lubricating oil in the cylinders of the new car, but these emissions are 1/300 of those from the same petrol-fueled engine. Hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions are one-tenth those of the US Environment Protection agency requirements. Nitrogen oxide emissions are one-fourth of the petrol-based counterpart and could be reduced further (www.nrglink.com/updates/ recentnrgs.html).
