At the turn of the 20th century, the intrepid explorers, Sir Ernest Shackleton and Robert Falcon Scott, built cabins in Antarctica and used them as base camps for their journeys to the South Pole.
Now one can peer inside their famous cabins. Google has posted fisheye images of the cabins’ interiors online as part of the latest extension of its maps service, Street View.
Google said users can navigate the 360-degree photographs of the huts to see the thousands of kits, including books, clothing and canned food that remain preserved by the freezing air.
Since photos of the ice-encased continent are limited, Google has posted other locations of interest like the Ceremonial South Pole that features flags of signatory nations to Antarctic Treaty.
